Carved mask - 2023
this assignment was one of three projects which marked the culmination of my wood 1 course at risd. the industrial design department places significance on learning the actual processes of making to better inform our design. in every sphere of the design industry we often see a disconnect between the designer and manufacturer which causes waste, delay, and overall frustration on every end. it is important, as a designer, to know how your design will manifest physically.
for this assignment we were told to hand carve a wooden mask. I worked intuitively with the grain of the wood to inform my design. we were not allowed to use sand paper or any power tools.
